Christmas has been and gone and the New Year is fast approaching. The first day of the first month of a brand new year. 2017. Most of us are thinking it’s about time to figure out some New Year’s Resolutions. Undo the wrong, improve ourselves, learn and grow from the mistakes we’ve made and put right what we didn’t in 2016.
A rush of New Year’s Resolution’s come about as we vow to:
- Lose weight
- Eat healthier
- Exercise more
- Be careful with money
- Kick a bad habit
- Sleep more
The list goes on.
Most of us make these kinds of resolutions every year, but hand on heart how many of us can say we’ve stuck to them for a whole year? Some of the above may last a week, some even a month. But it’s not long till we fall back into the same old habits and are back to where we started. These types of resolutions are usually unrealistic, non motivational, pretty boring and often have no plan to back it up.
But what if I told you that you didn’t need to make these kinds of resolutions?
Take fitness and weight loss as an example. A lot of people will be wanting to eat healthier and exercise more. To lead a healthier lifestyle and decrease our waist line, it takes time, a shift in mind-set and multiple steps in order to achieve this goal. It takes hard work, persistence and dedication, not a 7-day juice diet or tea-tox.
So, I ask you, instead of writing down New Year’s Resolutions for 2017, outline monthly goals you want to address, starting with January.
In 2017, I myself am going to commit to setting 10 smaller goals each month to be able achieve more next year.
